5.  Business Rules of the department:

As per Business Rules 2007, (with subsequent amendments) the Department of Planning has to conduct the business on the following subjects:-

1. All matters relating to the formulation, follow up, appraisal and re-adjustment of-
a) Annual Plans and Five Year Plans; and
b) Sub Plans for sub-mountainous, bet, border and any other special areas.
2. All matters relating to the formulation of long-term development perspectives for the Punjab economy.
3. Declaration of backward areas or any other special areas.
4. All matters relating to Punjab State Planning Board.
5. All matters relating to the Coordination of Plans of the Administrative Departments.
6. All matters concerning State Government business with the Planning Commission, Government of India.
7. All matters relating to the Border Area Development Programme including coordination work relating to the integrated development of the areas adjoining the Western Border of the Country.
8. All matters relating to the Constitution of District Planning Committees and Metropolitan Planning Committees required to be constituted under articles 243 ZD and 243 ZE, respectively of the Constitution of India.
9. All work relating to UID.
10. All matters relating to assistance to Non-Government Organizations for the welfare of the people.


6.  Services provided by Department:

The Department of Planning is discharging the functions as Administrative Department mainly in respect of Border Area Development Programme, Kandi Area, Decentralized Planning, Punjab Nirman Programme and scheme relating to assistance to NGOs.

Punjab State Planning Board

The Punjab State Planning Board (PSPB) was created vide State Govt. Notification dated 27.9.1972 after a decision taken by the Punjab Government on 13.9.1972.  It is having an apex Planning Body consisting of subject matter specialists and technical experts in the form of a Board to strengthen the departmental machinery responsible for the formulation of development plans in the State.

Vide orders issued by the Department of Planning (Planning Branch) bearing No. 7/3/07-2P/439 dated 08/11/2012 the term of the already constituted Board has been extended for a period of 5 years i.e from 12-04-2014 to 11-04-2017. Contact information of Board is as under:-
