CM condoles death of noted wrestler & coach Sukhchain Singh Cheema
Chandigarh, January 11:
Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh today mourned the death of renowned wrestler and coach Sukhchain Singh Cheema, who died in a road accident at the Patiala bypass on Wednesday night.
Sharing condolences with the bereaved family, friends and relatives of the deceased, the Chief Minister said that with the death of Dronacharya Awardee Sukhchain Singh, a void had been created in the Punjab and Indian wrestling fraternity, which was difficult to fill. Captain Amarinder Singh described the tragedy as a huge loss to the nation as Sukhchain Singh Cheema was an icon in promoting wrestling in the international arena.
Son of Rustam-e-Hind Olympian Wrestler Kesar Singh Cheema and father of Rustam-e-Hind Olympian Wrestler Palwinder Singh Cheema, Sukhchain had also won the bronze medal during Tehran Asian Games in 1974.
