Chandigarh, June 10:

 

The Rural Development and Panchayat Minister, Punjab, Mr. Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa here today said that the ongoing project under 'Mission Tandarust Punjab' pertaining to the de-watering & de-silting of 6000 ponds across the State by divesting these of polluted water and silt is nearing completion.  

 

Divulging more about the cleaning campaign, Mr. Bajwa said that the work with regard to the de-watering & de-silting of the remaining ponds of the State would also be commenced soon and the target of cleaning the 15000 ponds in Punjab before monsoon would be completed by the end of this month. The minister further said that the work regarding the cleaning of silt from the ponds of 1000 villages has also been completed upto 50 percent. 

 

Mr. Bajwa while taking stock of the progress report of the cleaning work further added that under the campaign initiated as per the directions of the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh would not result in the cleaning of ponds but also lead to ensuring a clean as well as green environment. He also said that this project would also come in handy for preservation of the rain water. 

 

The minister further elaborated that the cleaning campaign is being constantly supervised by the Principal Secretary, Rural Development and Panchayat Department, Punjab, Mr. Anurag Verma and the Director, Mission Tandarust Punjab, Mr. Kahan Singh Pannu.
