From eminent lawyer to Pro-Tem Speaker - Success journey of Rana KP Singh

The Governor of Punjab, Mr. V.P. Singh Badnore today sworn in Rana Kanwar Pal Singh (Rana KP Singh) as the Pro-Tem Speaker.
An eminent Rajput leader of Punjab, 59 year old Rana KP Singh S/o Raghbir Singh Rana was born in village Jhandian in District Roopnagar. A law graduate, he was impressed by the Congress’ ideology during his student days and always pro-actively participated in every activity of the party.
Keeping in view his immense contribution towards the party, he was first appointed President of District Congress Committee (Roopnagar). That was the start of his ascendency after which he never looked back. He also remained the Vice President of PPCC and Member of All India Congress Committee (AICC).
Romping home for the 3rd time as an MLA, Rana KP Singh also remained President of the Roopnagar Bar Association. He was first elected MLA from Nangal in 2002 assembly polls on Congress ticket when he defeated senior BJP leader Madan Mohan Mittal by more than 12000 votes. He was first appointed as Chairman of the Punjab Pollution Control Board and then the Chief Parliamentary Secretary in the then Congress Government. In 2007 polls, he again emerged victorious from the Nangal assembly constituency by defeating Madan Mohan Mittal but lost out in 2012 polls to Mr. Mittal from Sri Anandpur Sahib constituency.
He remained connected with the masses despite his defeat and was rewarded with huge victory by 23881 votes in the 2017 polls.
