The government of Punjab is implementing a number of e-governance initiatives in the state. An essential part of e-governance is mobile-governance or m-governance which leverages mobile technology for extending the reach of e-governance and increasing availability of government services and information – “anytime, anywhere”.

Push SMS: – In order to increase the penetration of m-governance, Punjab has prepared & launched 20 mobile apps & has sent more than 25crore transactional as well as awareness SMSs till date.

Various departments of Punjab government are sending awareness and transactional SMSs to the citizens.Awareness SMSs are sent to spread awareness among citizens of Punjab about various government schemes and other information. Transactional SMSs are being sent to citizens who have applied for availing government services. The details of the number of SMSs sent by various Punjab government departments / organizations as on 7thDec 2016 are as under:-

Mobile Applications: – Some of the android based mobile apps launched by the government of Punjab for the convenience of the citizens are e-Sewa, Know your police, School Education’s Directory and Staff login, PSPCL consumer services, PUDA mSewa, 1905 SangatDarshan, Punjab Tourism, InvestPunjab, CRAMAT Ludhiana, MCMohali, etc.These mobile apps can be downloaded from the Google Playstore orthe Mobile SevaAppstore (https://apps.mgov.gov.in/state.html?state=Punjab).

The ranking of Punjab(as on 7thDec 2016) in mobile applications is 9thin Push SMSand 7thamongst all states of India. These rankings are as per the Mobile Seva portal of Government of India (http://mgov.gov.in).
